Art Class ~ Week 3~ By: KL (age 12)

Hi everyone, I want to once again welcome KL who is here to share with us her thoughts on our color class last week!

For this week’s art lesson we talked more about the color wheel. The color wheel can have many colors in it. But there are six main colors that it will always have, those colors are red, blue, and yellow, (The primary colors) and green, purple, and orange (The secondary colors). It may have colors in between, but it will always have the primary and secondary colors. For our lesson this week we used the color wheel with six colors, the primary and secondary colors.

First everyone got a paper with a plain color wheel with six parts; each was at a different spot on the paper. Then we each painted in the primary colors in a triangle; leaving one triangle in between each spot. In the empty spots we painted the secondary colors in between the spots that they go in. For an example we painted purple in between the red and the blue. The older ones (Me, JS, and VL) mixed the primary colors to get the secondary color, but for the littler ones (NL, CS, ML, etc.) the colors were already mixed. After we painted the color wheel we painted a picture using the color wheel as a part of the picture. Even though we each had a color wheel on our paper and we each used the same colors it was all different because we each had a different picture.

Thanks KL for your post! I think that the paintings turned out really well! You all did a great job and I cant wait to see what you make next week!

Color Class~ Week 3

Its Thursday again and that means that we had our art class again! It was a wonderful class! We talked about the color wheel and how the secondary colors we made last week fit right into wheel in a nice order! The kids all painted a color wheel, then used that wheel in a design they choose! It was a great way to combine a structured project with creative painting! The kids had fun and the paintings were really well done! Our teacher is so amazing! Each week the kids paintings all turn out really well! Here are the pictures of today's class!

Learning about the color wheel.

The kids made the color wheel first

The younger kids used pre- mixed colors and the older kids mixed their own colors.

Here is ML's color wheel

He turned it into a snail! :)

Here is KL mixing her own colors

NL made a really great flower!

Here is BS working really hard on his color wheel!

HM wanted to turn his color wheel into a tractor!

CS worked really long on her project. This is the beginning stages, but she made a man walking a dog eating a giant rainbow ice cream!

VL decided to make his art abstract! His goal was to have the colored stripes draw your eye into the color wheel! I'd say her did a good job!

Here are the girls working! Bunny made her picture a hot air balloon, and CM did some amazing flower around her color wheel snail!

Isn't her snail and flowers really good!

Here is CS painting further on! I love her creativity!

Here is HM finishing his tractor.

The Littles had a lot of fun painting too! We just give them some paint and let them experiment!

So there you have it! Week 3 is all done! The kids had fun and it was really great to see all the creative ideas that they came up with! Stop back soon as we will have some great student bloggers this week! Happy Schooling everyone!

Advanced Art Class~ Week 2~ by: JL (age 15)

I am so very happy to have JL back today to share more of the art that he has done in the advance art class this week! Take a look and let us know what you think! I think he is doing a great job! :)

In this week’s art lesson, I again used contour drawing, but this time I drew three-D objects. So I went around the house and found: a clay frog, a pawn, a pair of scissors, a pocket knife, and a stapler. I was trying to look at the objects as lines instead of shapes. It was kind of tricky to get the hang of it, as you can see by the first one I drew (the clay frog). I didn’t look at it as lines, I kept thinking of it as a frog, so it didn’t turn out as well. I was really proud of the knife and the stapler. I think they turned out well. This way of drawing, has made things that are difficult to draw, a lot easier to do.

Thanks so much JL for sharing your work! It is wonderful! Stay tuned everyone, tomorrow is color class week 3!!!! See you then!

Art Class~ Week 2~ By KL (age 12)

I am thrilled to present you with our student blogger today! KL has written another post for us telling us all about her color class experience this week! Thanks so much KL for writing for us! :)

For our second art class we learned about secondary colors. Secondary colors are the colors in the middle of the color wheel. They are green, orange, and violet, (purple). You make them with even amounts of the primary colors.

Painting by KL (age 12)

For our art project we mixed even amounts of the primary colors. First we traced squares, circles, and triangles overlapping one another on our paper. Next we painted the shapes with the primary colors, the squares were yellow, the circles were blue, and the triangles were red. Then we mixed the primary colors into green, orange, and violet, and painted them into the overlapping spaces.

Even though they were all the same colors they were each different. They were all very cool and we all had a great time and I can’t wait to see everyone again next week!

Color Class~ Week 2!

Today we had our second color class with everyone and it was wonderful! The lesson today was about mixing secondary colors! It was alot of fun! The kids were asked to trace different shapes onto their paper in an overlapping design. Then they were to paint circle blue, squares yellow, and triangles red. The parts that were overlapping remained white, and they were filled in with the secondary color the two shapes made. This was a fun way to see the color mixing happen. It was a little tricky at first for the kids to do, but then they got the hang of it! They all did great work and I hope they learned about which colors mix to make other ones! :) Here are the pictures of our class!
The "Little's" were able to paint today! They loved it! The looks of concentration are so cute! :)

Here is their finished art!

Here is the teaching portion of the lesson! The color wheel one of the focal points!

They also looked at some art to see how the primary colors are the first your eyes see, then you see the secondary colors! It was fun to see how that was true in each picture! :)

They started by tracing shapes onto their paper.

The next step was to paint the primary colors.

Then we had a demonstration of how to mix colors.

Here is one proud artist!

Here is another!

Here are the final paintings waiting to dry!!!! :)

They all did such a great job! I loved all the finished products!!!! Next week have another one, and tomorrow we have a student blogger so check back soon! Happy Schooling!
